Food Security is National Security

THE PEOPLE’S AGENDA

Family farms are essential to South Carolina’s economy, food security and culture — but are under immense pressure from rising costs, extreme weather, and unstable markets.

I’ll fight for consistent policies that help farmers plan, adapt and succeed — profitably and sustainably.

Family farms are the backbone of South Carolina’s economy and rural communities — and it is inexcusable our farmers are not getting the support they need. I’ll work to stabilize costs, improve infrastructure, and ensure federal policies support, not undermine, the people who grow our food and our economy.

Priorities:

  • Lower input costs on fuel, fertilizer, seeds, and other commodity necessities

  • Improve environmental infrastructure and support for farmers to better prepare for unpredictable extreme weather and stress on irrigation systems

  • Protect farm profitability and stability by replacing federal government and market volatility with stable trade and farm policies

  • Prioritize labor access to overcome shortages, ensure harvest success and operational continuity, and allow for efficient, sustainable, reliable management

  • Support the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, a bipartisan bill which creates a pathway to legal status and eventual citizenship for undocumented agricultural workers who meet specific, long-term work requirements

  • Invest in rural broadband as a catalyst for economic growth, modernizing agriculture, providing essential access to emergency services during extreme weather and remote healthcare, mental healthcare, and education

  • Invest in rural healthcare to prevent rural hospital closures, improve access to mobile clinics and telehealth services, address workforce shortages, and address disparities for rural populations such as higher rates of chronic disease

  • Protect against sprawl to preserve South Carolina’s rural landscape, jobs, wildlife, sustainable ecosystems, property rights, family legacies, and our state economy
